Eat your vegetables.

MUSIC: MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER SINGING THE INTRO TO CHEERS
MOOD: EXCITED

This morning when I left the house to go to class, the sun was out. After a week of constant rain and wind, it's a nice change to see we do have other options.

So yeah, I had another lame day really.

Aachen tomorrow! Yay! And, to compensate all the school-stuff going on here, I have an outfit pic. Super yay!

It definitely wouldn't win the most exciting outfit of the year award but I added some sweet effects to the photo to make it look more interesting.
Yeah winter's here, I tend to dress very unlike me when it gets cold. Blame it on the braincells freezing, or the fact it's just super hard to look stylish in winter stuff without looking like the Michelin dudie.

I'm barely 5'3", when I throw on a big knit I look rollable like a ferris wheel. So I layer like there's no tomorrow. Polyester/spandex tops actually really keep you warm in winter. Throw a pretty loose-fit top over it and a cardigan and boom, winter-proof.

I'm ranting, aren't I?
It's the boredom, I can't help it.
I'll shush now.

Intimate groove confused with childish tantrums.

MUSIC: BRIGHT EYES
MOOD: LETHARGIC

Urgh I'm having such a boring day. I've been tidying my room (a lovely new habit of mine), watching Criminal Minds and taking naps in my PJs.

Thursday I made two nice drawings in Figure Drawing:

I've come a long way from drawing stick figures haha. These were one hour poses though, unlike the 12-minute poses we usually do, this is kind of easy because you can really take your time to do details like hair and feet.

Oh and I'm sorry about this becoming a blog about school life haha, but frankly, school is being my life at the moment. (That sounds worse than it is, though I would like my social life back.)

MOOD: SLIGHTLY DRUNK

Just got back from my best friend's place, we had doritos and dip with sangria, along with the movies 'What We Do Is Secret" with Shane West and "How to Be a Serial Killer" with Matthew Gray Gubler.

Tuesday we're going to Aachen (that's Germany for all you georgraphy n00bs out there) for some shopping, some Christmas atmosphere and some school work - I have a photography assignment.
How convenient, is it not?

Oh and;

Me having a hell of a good time at typography. Haha.
And yes, two scarves, when it gets REALLY cold, I even wear 3 scarves. Haha.

Goodnight folks, I'mma go brush my teeth then sleep like tomorrow is days and days away.
Life is golden.

MUSIC: THE GHOST OF A THOUSAND
MOOD: HAPPY

Hurray! Life can be so much fun from time to time. Last night I stayed up till 2 AM to finish some of my school projects, of which one you can see below, so you can imagine my sorrow when at 6:15, the alarm clock went off.
Now thing is, I had 4 hours of Photography class ahead of me - something I'd find super fantastic and interesting, if only we were being taught something.
So I stumbled out of bed, only to get back in for another 4 hours. Yay!

So now I haven't been to Photograpy class in like... 6 weeks. Oh my.

Anyhoo so second time's a charm, 10:30, I roll out of bed, all happy. I pack my things, do my hair, get dressed etc - only to arrive at school and notice our teacher is missing.

HURRAY! More happy fun time!

And now, pictures of my latest work that *gasp* involves scissors and glue! Anyone that knows me, knows that I prefer working with my precious computer, Photoshop and Illustrator.
But I did it!
(Sloppy look is intended btw.)

Box design had to include the word "ego", your baseline (for me that is a line from Akissforjersey's Marvin Gaye and How I Stole Myself, which I prefer acoustic, btw - "dry your eyes, dance in the sunlight"), a referral to your previous work and your name.

Hours dude, HOURS!

I don't only hate zebras, I also hate boxes.

I want it damn it, I want it!

Even though the entire outfit screams awesome, I'm specifically craving for the top. It's from the utterly awesome brand Something Else, which is quite frankly, really something else.

Fluttery sleeves, relaxed fit, neato graphics, what more could I want?
(Now if they'd throw in the boots for free, I'd be sold!)

MUSIC: ALEXISONFIRE
MOOD: CONFUSED

*Sigh*

I've had my fair share of doubt about whether or not studying graphic design was a good desicion, so I'm getting kind of tired of constantly having to wonder if this is really what I want to do with my life.

In a way I feel like I'm wasting time. I want to learn for crying out loud, and that's not exactly what we're doing. I would say it's like being thrown into the water whilst not knowing how to swim at all, but then my teachers would probably say it's like riding the bicycle, you just get on there and you peddle, you don't need an explanation for that.

Maybe I'm being impatient (okay I am being impatient) but I just wish I'd see a frikkin light and stop going back and forth about this.
I have an excuse though. I'm a libra.

I need a break. Three more weeks until feedback week. Four more weeks till vacation. I'm going to continue tidying my room (I started in August, I never finished), work my ass off and study like I've never studied before.

Jesus help me.

MUSIC: ALEXISONFIRE
MOOD: CREATIVE

I've been working on a school assignment all afternoon/evening.

"In het geheugen gegrift" literally means "Engraved in the memory". I hope the symbolism is clear enough.

I feel like it could be so much more attractive if I coloured the figures in, but I'm feeling kinda lazy haha. And the teacher that gave the assignment appears to like white.
Besides the whiteness, I'm afraid it might look too much like a birthday card, lolz. Maybe I'll do all balloons in different shades of one colour.

What do you think? Suggestions, remarks, epiphanies?

Obsessions

MUSIC: ALEXISONFIRE
MOOD: ACHEY

For some reason, I am strangely attracted to things that have swallows, owls, trees, feathers or deers on them.

Ah I miss my 30-minute shopping sprees during lunch at work. The practice I worked at was located like 5 minutes away from the shops, but now I'm in school and it'd take me at least 15 minutes to get there.
Feel my pain!

MOOD: BEYOND AWESOME

Last night, after waiting for 3 years in general, 4 months with the ticket in my hands and 7 hours in front of the concert hall, I finally saw Alexisonfire, the only band ever, live.

We (amigo and I) were there super early because we wanted to see Dallas Green, one of the vocalists and guitarists in the band, who has a solo project, City and Colour, as well.

And we did! :D

The show was awesome, I was totally bruised and tired from the previous two bands, especially The Ghost of a Thousand because there were moshpits everywhere and I was standing front row, sticking against the metal fences, but George's energy is infective haha.
I had more exercise than I had in the past 3 years.
The sound was a bit off, but that couldn't spoil the fun. Not even The Ghost of a Thousand's vocalist's foot in my face could ruin the mood.

We left before Anti-Flag started (haha) and I got me this awesome shirt.

Life is golden.

Shitty picture taken with my precious Nikon D5000 which seems to be having difficulties with his new big multimedia brother, because the software's being a bitch. Oh well.

I love having a laptop, it's so relaxing to be in bed, browsing and stuff. How did I ever live without this?

I kinda come off as a spoilt brat with all my toys, but do know that I pay for them myself.
Hooray for working full-time for  9 months!

I need some warmth for thursday, cause I'll be outside the concert hall, waiting for Alexisonfire. w00t! I've been waiting for years <3

Yesornoez: Dorothy Perkins order

MUSIC: CURSIVE
MOOD: GREEDY

Instead of doing my Art History paper on the Essence of Ancient Egyptian Architecture, I am browsing webshops.

Now the big question is: To buy or not to buy? I have plenty of shortsleeved shirts but this is only £7 yet only available in size 6 which I believe is super tiny, the pink dress is plain adorable but I fear I won't be able to wear a cardigan over it because of the flippy shoulder thing and the tube scarf because I can't find a proper cheap one for the life of me.

Alas, I do not have any money at this point.

Yeah, I crossed over to the dark side.

After two blogs I did completely on my own, hosted for free on random free hosting sites, I decided to move over to blogspot. Basically because of the lack of good free hosts out there. Yeah, bummer.

So from now on I'll only be able to make pretty headers because of my inherent absence of html knowledge. I should work on that, I know.
But in the meantime, blogspot it will be. So sit down, have a cookie and make yourself at ease.

I'm known for my inability to keep things brief, and my storytelling. So I present to you: An unnecessarily elaborate info page!

  About me

So as you’ve probably found out by now, my name is Vicky. I’m from Belgium, the land of chocolate, waffles, beer and political clusterfucks. I live in a tiny village in between Brussels and Antwerp, but I hope to move to Antwerp city sometime soon.
For those who wonder, I speak Dutch and my French isn’t what it should be.

In my daily life, I spend my time being an ophtalmologists’ secretary, meaning I schedule appointments and surgeries, measure people’s eyesight, drink tea and share giggles with my co-worker.
I have a soft spot for all things pretty so you’ll often find me shopping during lunch break, haha.

A few years ago, I decided to go study Graphic Design, but I dropped out after a year. I guess I was too young (or too immature, to put it that way) to deal with the stress of deadlines and criticism. If I were ever to go back, I would try my hand at Illustrative Design, however – I prefer to draw stories elaborately, not try to condense much info in tiny packages.

When I’m not lounging, watching my favourite tv-shows, you might find me at a concert venue. I love hardcore/metalcore and anything with a rock & roll feel to it, and my favourite bands are Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, Glassjaw, Gallows, The Bronx, etc etc etc.
The first time I ever stage dived was when Keith Buckley dragged me on stage... Twice. The man rolls hard.

About Disco me to Oblivion, baby!
    On style and blogging

Quite frankly, I don’t like refering to this blog as a “fashion blog”. Fashion is so much broader than shopping and styling, it’s a form of art which I don’t care about enough to label my blog after it.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind watching a fashion show or two, but if I enter a library or bookstore, it’s likelier that I’ll be hanging in the illustrative arts section.

My style is pretty much a mish mash of things I like and feel inspired by. I can’t pin point it down to a few words other than those.  Lately I’ve been drawn to a bohemian, 70s laid back vibe, but then the next day I’ll go out all-black in coated skinnies and leopard print shoes.
I don’t see myself as something special really, I just go with the flow. Whatever I do needs to happen organically – otherwise I just won’t do it haha.

I’ve gotten a LOT of comments about my hair so I thought I’d explain the way I style it. My hair is naturally curly however it doesn’t look as polished when I get out of bed as it does in my pictures. I go to bed after washing my hair so it’s a birds’ nest in the morning. So I get the whole thing wet again, let it airdry for about 30 minutes and then blowdry upside down using a diffuser with my fringe seperated and pinned back. I straighten my fringe with a comb/dryer hybrid, which looks more natural than a flat iron.

    On webdesign

Another thing that is often asked about: My layouts. I create my layouts myself, which immediately explains the errors and flaws they have. They’ve all cost me blood, sweat and tears so if I catch anyone stealing my content I swear I will rip your guts out.
Okay I’ll probably just write you a pissed off e-mail, but still! My e-mails can be pretty vicious. GRRR!

I've been asked to do layouts for blogs a few times now. I currently don't often do commissioned work, because frankly I'm not licensed (tax-wise) to do so and thus I refrain from the big ticket jobs because Belgian IRS will hunt me down. I'm in the process though of getting a license, somewhere in the first quarter of 2013 I want to start a small business, yay!
