The Best of 2009

MOOD: NOSTALGIC

the power breaking down in the urban outfitters fitting rooms, conversations about blind dates in the stock room, 'quick, act like you're working!', a blind date, being completely off the world and almost falling down in front of the museum and later almost falling asleep over a diet coke, getting lost and trying to find your way and ending up being late, waiting for the light to go green again while listening to kings of leon, being a secretary, 19 little baby fishes and naming them all neighbour, o.c.t.'s and biometries and visual field tests, oblivion, giving just about everyone my phone number, being drunk as hell and running to the restrooms like crazy, myspace myspace myspace, lunch breaks at h&m, spotting myspace buddies at h&m, crash team racing, myspace myspace myspace again, entry exam, the weirdest yet most intriguing phone call I have ever had, long train rides, 'yaay we're on fire!', banana beer, the beach of ostend, robot chicken, alexisonfire and meeting dallas green, freezing to death at the station and having to bear a stranger's criticism on my drawing, fashion advice from ronald my graphic design professor, 'my spoon is too big', skating to the station, getting lost due to being overly focused on not falling on my face...

and hopefully tomorrow, an awesomely fun party.

what I hope is coming in 2010:

more memorable moments with my friends, meeting more awesome people, getting a tattoo or a piercing, finding more happiness in what I study, listening to great music, watching great films, live more, love more, laugh more, generally just having  a really good time.
forget new years resolutions.

happy early 2010 everyone. I wish you all the best for a new year and a new decade.

H&M is doing my head in.

Ah, this makes me want summer so badly! I mainly want the necklace, and the peplum dress and the zip-up wedges if they fit me right.
In all honesty, I'm glad the studs and shit are gone. Everyone just started to look like they had been thrown up on by the mythical, evil studs monster.
Ugh, I don't know, I just really don't like the whole "look at me being a tough rock chick" trend. It was fun for a while (because I got things I had been looking for ever since my scene kid phase like a studded bag and black leather bracelets to stack up) but then every average girl started wearing it and yeah... It just doesn't look right.

[/rant].

I should make some kind of mood board for the coming Spring/Summer season so I don't end up buying the same shit as usual haha. I wonder if that'd work?

Hurray! Today sales started on most web shops! I mostly looked forward to Topshop, but heh I haven't spotted anything worth my money yet.
I thought I'd check Urban Outfitters while I was at it and oooooh it was on!

Click for bigger pic.

Finally, the bag of my dreams for €28. It's not real leather but hey, let's say we're being animal-friendly, right. The white tank features the anatomy of a bird (so much for animal-friendliness), and as you all may know (or not) I've been really into the bones and skulls of our furry and feathery little friends, so it was a pretty obvious choice. And last but not least, the tie-dye cardigan which started it all: a web-exclusive, so I had to order. Ooh I can see this cover up being used for lots of chilly summer nights!

There are still quite some items on my wish list but I'm going to wait till sales start here in Belgium to get them, as I'd like to try them on first. Might do a collage, might not. I sure had fun doing this one. (My typography professor would kill me if he saw how I raped Imprint MT Shadow!)

Okay enough for today. Time for philosophy.

I don't think I'm going to make the goal I set for today: Resuming at least 4 chapters.
Oh well I'll do that tomorrow.

Merry Christmas, you guys! I sure got me my present hehe.

Yay, my dress arrived today!

Lately I'm being a complete eBay addict, searching through piles and pages of crap like a madwoman. And it pays off! I got me this cute dress for £0,01 haha. (Okay I payed £8 for shipping but that doesn't matter, right.)

lookbook: here

So I immediately put it on, with some tights and leather look leggings over them, and my trusty vintage boots. Not quite sure how I like it better, but I do know I'm going to have to get me some more belts haha. I just keep wearing this gold studded one because it's really the only one that fits me right.

For that matter, it's being hell to find my dress size lately. This little number is a 34, a UK 6, and it fits me perfectly. When I order on ASOS I need a 10, maybe even a 12 depending on the style. Insane right?

I hate shopping at ASOS haha.

Quick newsflash: I did not freeze to death, I managed to keep myself from bashing onto the ground, fresh snow has piled up on top of the old, brown layer and my arm hurts from killing zombies with the Wii.

Yeah you could say I have had a pretty awesome weekend.

Okay it's -8°C outside and I gotta make my way through wednesday's snow without smashing my face to the ground. Even though my precious, loyal converses managed to keep my feet dry over the past few days, they're not exactly warm.

Hmm. What else do I have left... My vintage boots! Worn out and totally watertight. Though that means I have to wear a skirt or dress because I really don't like the pants-in-boots look.

Tights and leather-look leggings it will be! So yeah, in case I freeze to death in this (plus big fluffly cardigan, plus two scarfs, plus wool coat), goodbye world, it was nice knowing you.

Everyone that occasionally does something creative, probably knows the feeling. You go to bed, try to get some sleep and then boom: For some odd reason there's this flow of inspiration keeping you awake.

If for some reason I don't make it to the second year of graphic design (I hope I do, but you never know) I might have to look into Fashion and Branding.

Anyway. There's so much I want to do, and this is a small start:

In case you can't tell (I'm not assuming you can because my sketching talent isn't ehh... yeah I have lots of room for improvement haha), it's a bird's skull.

So, I've been pretty quiet for a few days.

First of all, I'M HAVIN' HOLIDAYS! YAY! Just gotta make sure I start studying soon enough for exams in January.

Second, showtime sucked. Besides the comments on my work (which weren't all too bad), one of my professors felt the need to bash me to the ground.
Yeah, I don't listen, I'm stubborn, I can't take criticism, I'm too verbal (which is, to me, like saying you're too smart - that's just impossible) and it's never ever good enough for me.
1) I do listen, I listen very very carefully even. 2) I'm not stubborn, I just know what I want and what I don't want. 3) What I do or do not do with criticism given, is always a careful decision. 4) Like I said, there's no such thing as being too verbal. 5) I'm a perfectionist. Deal with it.

She also cared enough to mention she would not be able to work with me. Well, if it's one thing I have learned from secondary school, it's that when you cannot work with someone, that is your problem, not theirs.

Because I had been noted of my defensive attitude, I decided to shut my mouth, smile and nod and say "I understand".
Nevertheless, it still hurts to be called all those things.

I don't like it when people start talking crap because they think they got me all figured out. I know that I'm not the easiest person to deal with, but as long as I am happy with the way I am, I'm not changing one bit.

So F U mofo's.
I'll be back in January, rollin' like I've always rolled.

PS: My Adobe CS3 trial ran out so that's why I don't have shit to update with. Bummer huh.

EEP! It's Sunday, which means I have two more days to complete everything. Yesterday was crazy, I got up at 10 and worked all day long, without moaning! That's so unlike me!

Today I'm having a less-awesome day though. Moaning and everything. Possibly because right now I'm working on all things I have delayed for so long. Oh sh#$.

Anyway, I just did my movie title for Typography. Unlike that other assignment, which I had to redo completely, the professor liked my first attempt, I just needed to add some spice to it.

Some red it is.

Yay! Starting wednesday I have holidays! More yays! Ah, Christmas lights, freezing cold, hot coffee and lots and lots of studying, as I'll have exams starting January 4. How's that for a happy New Year?

Now, some more City and Colour music while I finish preparations for showtime!

MOOD: WAY TOO LAID BACK

It's tuesday, I have exactly one week left until apocalypse (showtime - literally! gotta display all my schoolwork, preferably finished haha) and I'm making outfit pictures! Yay!

Anyway, I got this dress off of eBay. It's not the size I was looking for, nor the right colour, but because of the low starting bid, I decided to give it a shot anyway. I won it for 7 bucks yet shipping was relatively pricey (it did come in a box, wow much?) but I ended up paying about €13, so yeah, not too bad for a nwot dress.

lookbook: here

It's got the look and feel of a giant tangerine (oh gitty gosh that rhymes!), it's two sizes too big, but it's so cute.

I actually expected the colour to look way worse on me.

But now I really should get to business.

I'm on a bloggin' roll today!

Possibly because I have lots of work but no inspiration. So I'm going down my list of inspirational sites and managed to stumble upon a fashion-related website. OH SHIT! There goes my effort haha.

This, my lovelies, is the Serena dress by the designer duo Christopher Deane. Pretty, indeed. But alas, it's $298.00.
That's a whole lot of H&M dresses.

So, this goes on the DIY to do list. I just love love love the simple bodice, the high neckline, the studded trim, the pleating of the chiffon and how it's got the right amount of sheerness to it.

You know, not that hard to translate into DIY. You know. Right?

My pretty, soft, fuzzy and most of all HUGE circle scarf from Promod; featured in very shitty pictures of another inspiration-less outfit.

Including some very shitty editing (hey, I get bored). I didn't mess with the colours though, credit goes to my camera!
And yes, the scarf is as big as it seems. I'm constantly fighting it to stay down as if it's a giant afro hairdo getting frizzy in humid weather. Nevertheless, I love it so <3

AAAH school's wearing me out. I should be doing a hell of a lot of assignments but I just can't seem to force myself into starting.

So, what else to do but blog about last week's trip to Aachen?

Well, all awesomely tacky cheap stores (in which you'd find some pretty neat stuff if you really looked around) were gone, so all that was left was Zara and H&M. Oh and Xenos, which we don't have in Belgium.
I got me a HUGE black circle scarf at Promod, for €20. It's all nice and fuzzy.

Now the pictures!

Bad, bad lighting in this photo, I know. It was too cold to start fiddling around with the buttons on my camera.

Possibly the cutest frogs since the Motilium adverts.

We went to a hell of a lot of toy stores to take pictures of all things zebra, for the second part of my zebra-linked assignment for school.

It was fcking freezing, and I still don't have a winter coat so I just ran around in my jacket all day. So we decided to go heat up with some hot chocolate. I went for a milkshake instead.
When we went out again, it felt as if the temperature had dropped a few more degrees.

And the award for prettiest christmas lights of the day goes to...

And the award for the ugliest christmas lights of the day goes to...
Srsly, draping blue lights in trees... What were they thinking?

Happy Sunday everyone.
